Restless leg syndrome is a disorder that results in a strange urge to move one’s leg, accompanied with unpleasant sensation in legs. In such a case, moving one’s leg temporarily relives the person from this unpleasant feeling.

Restless leg syndrome is of two types. The first one, starts early in life, before the age of 45.this type of restless leg syndrome is hereditary in nature and its signs and symptoms get starts up in childhood itself. The second type of restless leg syndrome is not hereditary in nature but tends to affect people over 45 years of age.

What really makes restless leg syndrome disorder more difficult to deal is that the symptoms vary from person to person and they are not even easy to describe. Those who suffer describe the “strange” feeling as crawling or electric sensation or itching or creeping. Some people experience an uncomfortable sensation in their legs when they are at rest and any kind of movement like kicking, walking, and rubbing of legs make them feel better. Those who suffer from acute cases of restless leg syndrome often visit doctor with complaints of insomnia and fatigue too. This fatigue caused due to restless leg syndrome can also have negative effects like lack of concentration; weaken memory, anxiety and depression in a person.

Those suffering from restless leg syndrome should avoid alcohol, caffeine and even smoking few hours before they hit the bed. They should exercise on regular basis. Also, make certain that the person suffering from the same avoid eating any heavy meals close to his/her bedtime and follow a regular sleep regime too. Even stretching the leg few times a day and massaging can really benefit a person suffering from this restless leg syndrome disorder.
