If your child often wakes up at night or finds problem in finding a sound sleep, then it can pose various problems and discomfort for the child as well as for you as a parent. A night without proper sleep would lead to your child becoming cranky and irritated. In addition, this habit or problem would also disrupt your sleeping pattern thereby acting as a hurdle in your healthy life. Thus, solving the toddler’s sleeping problems is a must to make him as well as yourself fresh, energetic and lively for the next day. Before moving ahead into finding solutions, one needs to first find out the causes of sleepless nights so as to search for its remedies.
Toddler’s generally face sleepless nights due to the problem of sleep waking, environmental adjustment problem, separation anxiety and also due to resistance to sleep. Most of these problems can be treated through extra care, love and protection and toddlers generally outgrow this problem with time. However, if the condition persists, then medical attention is required to rule out any inherent ailment. As a parent, you can take some steps to ensure that your child gets a healthy night sleep. This primarily includes developing and setting a bedtime routine from the beginning itself so that the child develops the habit of sleeping on time. A healthy routine which includes day-time routine also is a must in ensuring that the child does not suffer from sleepless nights. You need to be firm and not give in to the whims and pleas of your child. The use of excessive TV watching or playing games should be discouraged during sleeping hours. Make the sleeping environment of the child friendly, hospitable and comfortable so that the child feels safe and not afraid of sleeping. In addition, put your child to bed before he gets overtly tired as excessive activity or tiredness can also act as a hurdle in one’s sleep. If despite all your efforts, your child is still unable to find sleep at nights, then you should seek medical attention as there may be some internal ailment which is disrupting the healthy living of the child.
