Cystic Acne

January 2, 2009

You all must have heard and even sometimes been troubled by the problem of acne, either in the form of whiteheads or the more common pimples. Acne is of various kinds and one of the most painful and severe of them is cystic acne.

Cystic acne is basically an infection which results in the formation of cysts with swollen and even pus filled red pustules all over the skin or in specific regions. Given below are some causes and symptoms associated with the problem of cystic acne.

Cystic acne can be caused by various factors and there is no one particular cause which can be associated with it. Hormonal imbalance, increased production of sebum and accumulation of dirt on the skin can all lead to this infection. Usually teenagers and pregnant women suffer from this problem due to change in hormones. However, people of any age group and gender are equally susceptible to it. Redness, flamed up skin, inflammation and pus filled infections are some symptoms of cystic acne. Moreover, cysts are also susceptible to secondary infections. They should be well treated so as to avoid permanent scars. Since cystic acne is more severe and deep seated than other forms of acne, it takes more time to heal. Don’t use just any skin cream as that can lead to permanent scars and even skin discoloration. Thus, ensure to consult your doctor for a safer treatment.

While pimples and whiteheads get cured by themselves, through some home remedies, cystic acne is one for which medical treatment is advised. Also, ensure reducing your stress level as that can aggravate acne of any kind. These days, surgery and laser treatments have become popular to get rid of the scars left by cystic acne. Thus, don’t neglect this problem or take it carelessly as your skin to be treated properly for it to remain healthy.
