Common Gym Mistakes

March 18, 2009

Gyms have becoming a part and parcel of our lives, especially with people becoming more and more health and fitness conscious. However, going to gym has its own set of problems, especially if you do not know or do not follow basic gym safety measures which are essential to prevent common gym mistakes. Let’s first familiarize ourselves with common gym mistakes to prevent them.

How often have we heard of the importance of warm up before workouts? But many times people neglect this important component, ending up with unwanted injuries.  Always stretch your muscles well before putting them into vigorous workouts, stretching muscles and warming up are essential to loosen up our stiff muscles.

Just like warm ups, your body and muscles need a cooling down too after exercise. That is to say, you must stretch your muscles after a workout and also normalize your heart rate.

Most of us tend to neglect the importance of water. This nature’s gift is invaluable for the health and fitness of our bodies. Thus, you must always drink adequate water before and after workouts to keep your body well hydrated. Not drinking enough water and dehydrating the body is another common gym mistake.

A major and a common gym mistake is one in which people tend to outdo themselves. In a desire for an instant pencil thin figure, people tend to overdo and overstretch their bodies from the beginning itself. However, this will only lead to muscle strains and even injuries.

You need to be realistic and not look at gym as a magic wand. Slow and steady wins the race. Set realistic goals for yourself. Start with minimum and then gradually increase rate and intensity of your workout as stamina increases gradually.

Thus, remember the above given common gym mistakes so that you can prevent them.
