Colic in Babies
When adults are in discomfort, they can easily express their pain and discomfort through words. However, babies lack that privilege and the only way for them to express any kind of discomfort is through tears and cries. The crying of a baby is an indication of some underlying irritation and trouble.
Some babies cry little while there are some who cry and wail a lot. The latter kind of babies are termed as colic babies as colic is a condition which refers to long episodes during which your child becomes cranky, fussy, and irritable.
If your child is healthy, but still displays long episodes of unnecessary crying, then your child maybe colic. If you are wondering how you can find out if your baby is a colic baby or not, then here are some symptoms which can help you out.
While long and unnecessary crying of babies is linked with colic condition, such babies display a pattern in their cranky and irritable condition. Usually, it has been found that colic babies feel crankier during the end of the day and especially after feeds.
Additionally, most of the colic babies tend to have some abdominal discomfort, possibly caused by gas, leading to cramping up of muscles and discomfort. Colic babies often have intestinal gas, leading to cranky and irritable behavior. While gas can lead to colic, it is not a sure shot established cause.
Instead, there are no established factors linked to the colic condition of babies as research has listed out a number of possible causes ranging from digestive disorder to lactose intolerance and allergies.
Whatever be the cause of colic in babies, no parent can stand the incessant crying and discomfort of his baby. Thus, you can try out few things to help soothe your crying baby. If you think your child is hungry, then probably feed him but don’t unnecessarily overfeed him to make him stop crying.
You can also cuddle your baby or rock him in your arms to soothe him. Try different steps and if the colic condition of your baby refuses to budge, then you must consult a doctor.
