Coffee Roasting Tips

When tired or sleepy, we usually grab a cup of coffee to refresh ourselves. Today you would find packaged roasted coffee beans which have made our life simple and convenient. However, you can roast coffee beans at home to experience the extra delight of fresh and hygienic coffee. It is not a tough task and thus, follow the given tips to taste a fresh brew by roasting coffee beans at home.

Roasting is a process which causes a change in the chemical reaction of beans, turning carbohydrates and fats into aromatic oils. If you want to roast coffee at home, you can do that by using your oven and also on your stovetop. There are also home roasting machines of various qualities available in the market. When you roast coffee beans at home, you should know that the appearance of coffee beans alter after a few minutes of roasting. The color changes from green to light yellowish. The beans also start emitting a grassy aroma. You would hear two distinct popping sounds known as first and second ‘crack’. This leads to release of oils due to breaking up of coffee structure. If you want light coffee, stop the roasting process after the first crack itself. Usually roasting process should be stopped after second crack, but if you want really strong one, then you can move slightly ahead. The coffee then would be very dark and would look something like an espresso.

Roasting coffee beans at home give you an option of choosing the level of strong or light flavor you want from your coffee. In addition, it is absolutely fresh, according to your taste and not to forget hygienic. Thus, follow the given simple tips to make your own coffee at home.
