Causes of Ovarian Cancer
As the name suggests, ovarian cancer is the cancer of ovaries and carries the risk of spreading to other parts of the body like to the abdominal region through the bloodstream.
Ovarian cancer is primarily characterized by abdominal bloating and changes in bowel habits. This article will talk about the various causes of ovarian cancer.
There is no clearly defined cause that can be associated with ovarian cancer and there is still research going on for the factors that can be responsible for leading to this cancer. However, there are certain factors that increase the risk of your being affected by ovarian cancer.
To begin with, ovarian cancer is inherited. People who have a family risk of ovarian cancer are at a higher risk as it has been found that many women who inherit faulty genes get diagnosed with ovarian cancer. However, it is not necessary that if your mother has ovarian cancer, you too will have it.
Along with family history, personal history of cancer also plays a crucial role. For example, if you have already had a breast or a cervical cancer in your life, then there are higher chances of your suffering from ovarian cancer/
It has been found that people who are overweight and obese and those who indulge in smoking have a higher risk factor of ovarian cancer.
Women who have had a hormone replacement therapy for a long time are vulnerable to ovarian cancer. Similarly, if you have not been pregnant, then too you suffer from a risk of ovarian cancer. This is because it has been found that women who have children and who breastfeed their children have a lower risk of ovarian cancer.
Age too can be a deciding factor as ovarian cancer tends to occur in women above the age group of 50.
You must be aware of the various factors that can lead to ovarian cancer and you must get regular checkups done to remain healthy and fit.
