Causes of Mouth Ulcers

ulcermouthMany people suffer from mouth ulcers that can be quite painful. Mouth ulcers refer to small sores in regions like lips, tongue and inside of cheeks leading to an inflammatory condition of the mouth.

These red sores can often turn into open ulcers. Given below are some causes that lead to the problem of mouth ulcers.

Mouth ulcers can be a result of various factors, both internal and external. Stress is one such common cause that often triggers this problem. Thus, if you have frequent episodes of ulcers, you must try to control the levels of stress and anxiety in your life.

Lead a healthy lifestyle, have a healthy diet that includes the necessary nutrients and vitamins, sleep properly and de-stress yourself via yoga and meditation to avoid mouth ulcers caused by stress.

Ulcers can also be caused by a deficiency of nutrients like iron and Vitamin B12. Thus, have a healthy and a nutritious diet to avoid the painful problem of mouth ulcers.

Also, avoid bad habits of smoking and drinking as along with leading to various health problems, they also contribute to the problem of mouth ulcers.

A major cause that triggers the problem of mouth ulcers is that of unhealthy eating habits. Fried, oily, and spicy food are the main culprits. If you frequently have spicy and oily food, then you increase your chances of having the problem of ulcers.

Hormonal changes in the body are another cause for mouth ulcers. It is for this reason that ulcers are more common during adolescence stage and also during menstruation.

Certain illnesses and diseases like diabetes, tuberculosis, AIDS and overreaction of body’s immune system can lead to the problem of ulcers. In addition, certain injuries caused by use of dentures or by accidental biting of cheeks can lead to the problem of mouth ulcers.
