Causes of Mood Swings
There are many people who have frequent changes in their mood. You can witness such people’s mood drastically swinging from happiness to sadness or from calmness to anger and rage. This is refereed to as mood swings and there are various causes of it.
While some causes can be circumstantial where-in the person displays mood swings due to change in circumstances, there are also various times when a person undergoes frequent changes in moods (from high to low or vice-versa) without any apparent reason. This article will throw light on some causes of mood swings.
Hormonal changes and fluctuations are the major causes of mood swings. It is for this reason that mood swings are commonly seen in teenagers and especially during their puberty stage.
During puberty, the bodies of the teenagers undergo a physical change and that often leads to mood swings as teenagers are in a stage of emotional upheaval where-in they try to comprehend themselves and their identity.
Similarly, women approaching menopause also suffer from mood swings due to hormonal fluctuations and changes in the body. Menstruation and menopause are seen as two major events in a woman’s life that can lead to frequent mood swings that are often beyond control of the person.
Stress is a big contributor to the problem of mood swings. Constant stress at personal and professional levels often triggers the problem of mood swings. People who are emotionally insecure are also vulnerable to frequent mood swings.
Along with the above given causes, it has been found that people with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Bipolar depression also display symptoms like frequent mood swings.
People suffering from frequent mod swings should be paid attention too as this is a problem which can often lead to person affected falling into depression or getting suicidal tendencies. Thus, understand the various causes of mood swings and then take the required preventive or remedial steps.
