Causes of Ingrown Toenails
You must have heard of ingrown toenails causing swelling and inflammation of your skin. But before moving into details, let’s understand what exactly an ingrown toenail is.
When your nail and its sides in particular dig inside your toe skin, then it is referred to as an ingrown nail.
This in turn can lead to the toe and its skin becoming red and inflamed and this problem can be quite painful. Given below are some causes of ingrown toenails.
The major cause of having an ingrown toenail is paying less attention to trimming of nails. You need to trim your nails on regular intervals so that they don’t turn into ingrown and unhealthy nails.
Also, when you trim your nails, you should ensure that that they are not peeled off at the edge and that they are not cut too short or improperly trimmed.
Cutting your nails too short is a primary reason for the development of ingrown toenails as the skin next to the nail cut too short folds into the skin. Thus, not only is trimming nails important but also trimming them properly is essential for preventing ingrown nails.
Improper selection of shoes is another cause of ingrown toenails. If you wear shoes that are tight, then you are at a higher risk of getting ingrown toenails. Also, injuries to toenails and infections like those of toenail fungal infection can lead to ingrown toenails.
If you are suffering from diabetes, then there are chances of your developing the problem of ingrown toenail. This is because diabetes restricts proper circulation to feet, often leading to various foot related problems and slowing down of the healing process.
Given above are the various different causes of ingrown toenails. All these causes are preventable and thus, you should pay little bit of extra time and attention to your feet so that they are kept healthy and fit.
