Causes of Indigestion

indigestionwomenIndigestion is a common problem faced by many people. It can lead to belching, heaviness, heartburns, discomfort in the stomach region and can also cause abdominal pain.

In addition, indigestion can also lead to headaches, body aches, nausea and vomiting. There are various causes for indigestion and this article will throw light on such causes.

Indigestion refers to a condition in which the food is not properly digested by our digestive system. Many people suffer from the problem of indigestion after consuming a heavy meal, be it in parties, weddings, or on any special occasion.

However, there are people who suffer from indigestion on a regular basis. This can be due to wrong and unhealthy eating habits where-in a person consumes a lot of fatty, oily and junk food.

Unhealthy eating does not include intake of unhealthy diet only, it also implies unhealthy eating habits. People who skip their meals or overeat and those who indulge in irregular dieting are also prone to the problem of indigestion.

People who consume a lot of alcohol or smoke a lot are more prone to the problem of indigestion. In addition, excessive intake of caffeinated drinks and aerated drinks can also cause indigestion.

Along with the above given causes, indigestion can also be caused by psychological factors. Stress is a major cause of indigestion and it has been found that people who remain tensed and emotionally stressed are more highly vulnerable to the problem of indigestion. If you don’t get adequate and proper sleep, then you can frequently suffer from the problem of indigestion.

The problem of indigestion can also be caused by some underlying medical problems like Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, cancer and ulcers.

Given above are some common causes of indigestion. One should try to prevent the causes from occurring so that the problem of indigestion and the discomfort caused by it can be avoided.
