Causes of Fainting
You must have seen some people fainting or losing consciousness when standing for long hours in the sun or due to any other cause. One should not take fainting lightly, especially if it happens more than once. Given below are some factors that can lead to a person fainting.
Fainting, medically called as syncope, is a condition in which there is reduced blood supply to the brain, leading to temporary loss of consciousness. It is necessary to find out the underlying cause of fainting to effectively treat the problem.
Dehydration is one cause of fainting. This in turn can be caused due to excessive sweating, long exposure to sun, and medical problems like diarrhea and vomiting. It is due to this reason that one hears of many episodes of children fainting due to heat exhaustion.
A sudden shock can lead to a person passing out. If a person suddenly hears some shocking news, then he can experience a sudden dip in his blood pressure which in turn leads to temporary loss of consciousness.
Just like shock, it has been found that stress, tension, fright, and anxiety are also some common causes of fainting.
Along with the above given causes, there are also some medical problems that can lead to fainting. Usually, it has been found that heart related problems like those related with heart valve or abnormal fluctuations in heart rate or rhythm can also lead to disrupted blood supply to the brain, leading to loss of consciousness. The problem of fainting can also be associated with the medical condition of diabetes mellitus.
In addition, drug or alcohol abuse and long hours of fasting are some other causes of fainting.
It is necessary to find out the underlying cause of fainting so that one can prevent and treat the problem in time.
