Feeling thirsty on a hot and dry day is natural. Your body quickly gets dehydrated and requires adequate water intake to stay healthy. But if you frequently face excessive thirst, then you must understand its causes.

Excessive thirst can many times be a by result of excessive urination which in turn can be caused by some underlying medical condition like diabetes.

People with diabetes urinate a lot and thus, their bodies have greater demand for water through excessive thirst.

A very basic fact- thirst occurs when our body gets dehydrated and there are various factors that can lead to this like a sunny day, excessive exercise and sweating and also due to body’s increased sweating mechanism.

In addition to the above causes, there are also certain factors that can cause excessive sweating. For instance, after having a heavy meal or taking foods high in salt, a person usually faces an urge to drink more and more water.

Similarly, intake of oily and fatty food is also a cause. You might wonder how eating can be linked with thirst.

If you are emotionally down and stressed, then you might just be having loads and loads of water. This is because it has been found that emotional and mental stress and tension can lead to excessive thirst.

Thus, there are various causes, medical, physical, emotional and even environmental which are responsible for a person feeling excessively thirsty.
