Causes and Symptoms of Hay Fever

As its medical name suggests, hay fever is a kind of allergic reaction which is more common in some particular seasons like those of spring and summer. This article will throw light on some of the common causes and symptoms of hay fever.

Hay fever is a kind of allergic reaction and is thus triggered by various allergens. If you are suffering from a seasonal hay fever, then it can probably be caused by pollen grains and molds. There are people who are allergic to pollens of certain kinds of grasses and trees. The most common weed known to cause hay fever is ragweed.

Along with pollens and molds, hay fever can also be caused due to a person’s sensitivity to dust and pollutants.  Also, sensitivity to fur, pet dander, paint, chemicals, and to certain kinds of cosmetic products can also trigger the problem of allergic rhinitis.

After having looked at the various causes of hay fever, let’s look at some of its common symptoms. The symptoms of hay fever are similar to those of an allergic reaction.

The symptoms primarily include sneezing accompanied by a running and an itchy nose; red, watery, and itchy eyes; blocked ears; headache, often caused by congested sinus; and wheezing or respiratory problem amongst others. People suffering from hay fever also suffer from fatigue and general weakness.

Hay fever can disrupt your normal day to day functions and can also lead to a lot of discomfort. Thus, it is better to prevent this problem. To prevent hay fever, you must recognize the allergens you are allergic to and try to avoid them. Usually, you must try to protect yourself from pollens and molds. In addition, if you find your symptoms worsening, then you must consult a doctor.
