Causes and Symptoms of Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological problem which leads to seizures. There are various questions in everyone’s mind when it comes to epilepsy and this lack of full information in turn gives birth to fear and myths.
This article will provide information on epilepsy and its various causes and symptoms so that you can effectively deal with it.
A person suffering from epilepsy suffers from frequent seizures which can last from few seconds to few minutes. The person suffering from epilepsy can suffer from temporary lack of consciousness.
In addition, epilepsy can be characterized by symptoms like confusion, uncontrollable movements and jerking of limbs, muscle spasms, convulsions, loss of urine, and excessive fatigue.
A person experiencing an epilepsy attack can suffer from episodes of staring in one direction without any response. Symptoms of epilepsy differ from person to person and it also depends upon the type of seizure.
That is to say, seizures can be partial or generalized and the symptoms an epileptic person experiences depends upon the kind of seizure he is suffering from.
In addition, the frequency of seizures also varies as there are some people who experience an epileptic attack only once in few months and there are also some who have repeated and frequent episodes of seizures.
After having looked at the various symptoms of epilepsy, let’s look at some of the causes of this problem. Epilepsy is a neurological problem and occurs when certain nerve cells get adversely affected.
Abnormal brain developments from birth, brain injury, trauma, or brain illness like brain tumor or a stroke are some factors that can lead to epilepsy.
If you find a person suffering from an epileptic attack, then you must provide him with the necessary first aid and immediately call an ambulance. It is important to seek medical assistance, especially if an epileptic person suffers from difficulty in breathing and repeated episodes of seizures.
