Bulimia
Do you experience episodes of sudden eating and binging on food and then desperately trying to get rid of that food and its associated weight gain through purging? If yes, then you might be suffering from bulimia which is a psychological eating disorder, especially common in women and in young generation who are excessively conscious about their figure. People suffering from this eating disorder go to any extent to shed off their weight. This can include forceful vomiting, almost insane dieting, use of laxatives and even over exercising.
As mentioned before, people suffering from the problem of bulimia first eat more than required and then purge that food out. It becomes like a regular vicious cycle which starts off with uncontrolled binging and ends with purging. However, you might ask that why do such people eat if they have to purge only? Well, the answer to this lies in the problem itself as bulimia is a psychological eating disorder. People who binge on food do so due to some psychological stress, tension or any other factor. Such people lack self control and are not aware of how much they eat during psychological or emotional stress.
While you might think that if a person eats and then removes that food from the body, then there can not be much harm to it. But, on the contrary, this problem is quite dangerous, can become chronic, and lead to various health hassles. Continuously forcing your body to first overeat and then purge is not healthy from any angle. Instead, this can lead to dehydration which is a common side-effect of frequent vomiting. Similarly, there can be electrolyte imbalance in the body, lowering down of potassium levels and other health problems that can range from mild to severe.
People suffering from bulimia need support and counseling of their near and dear ones to break this problem. They need to overcome their psychological stress to overcome emotional eating so as to lead a happy and a healthy life.
