Benefits of Water Aerobics
A splash in a pool of water during summers is the best way to beat the heat. Imagine this fun filled activity leading to numerous health benefits!!! Water Aerobics is a healthy form of exercise which includes different body movements performed in water. It is done in either waist deep or chest deep water depending on the type of exercise being performed. For some exercises like jogging, the whole body is submerged and other water aerobic exercises like circling of arms, bending of knees and others require only shallow submerged body. The key point remains simple- it provides health benefits along with fun, relaxation and rejuvenation of the entire body.
While it may sound simple, water aerobics is quite a challenging form of aerobics as it includes different exercises like weight lifting, running, jogging and stepping in water. However, this has its own advantages as it helps in the workout of all the body muscles and is a great form of stress buster. Since this exercise is performed in water, a person remains cool and fresh despite excessive sweating. Thus, water aerobics is very effective during summers when the hot and humid conditions make regular aerobics very difficult. In addition, water aerobics allows a person to exercise every muscle and joint in his body. Since the effect of gravity in water is greatly reduced, it increases flexibility of the body without pressurizing the joints. This in turn helps the joints to have a wider range of motions during exercise and can be extremely beneficial for aged people. Since water aerobics do not pit strain on one’s joints, this form of exercise can be performed by almost everyone, especially by people suffering from osteoporosis and arthritis who find land exercises difficult to perform. Performing water aerobics can aid in the overall health and well being of a person as such exercises help in keeping the body in shape along with increasing flexibility, circulation, muscle tone and stamina.
