Benefits of Red Wine

November 4, 2008

Did you know that drinking red wine can help keep you healthy, especially your heart? Excited and surprised. But this does not imply that you consume red wine in excess as moderation is the key to healthy living. Even though red wine has been found to be good for the health, its good effects can be witnessed only if it is consumed wisely in limited quantity. To know how this wine can help you remain healthy with a young and vibrant heart, read below.

According to studies, limited consumption of red wine can help lower the risk of heart attack for people in middle age. If you have already suffered from a heart attack once, then red wine can help prevent others from occurring. The good effects of red wine do not end here as it has also been found that this drink can raise the level of good cholesterol in our body while preventing LDL from forming. In addition, it helps prevent blood clots and reduces blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits. These good effects of red wine have been attributed to its rich content of antioxidants which help in keeping the body healthy. Resveratrol, found in grape skin and seeds helps in preventing blood clotting along with increasing HDL levels in the body. They also have anti-cancer properties that help in reducing the DND mutations that end up in cancer. Similarly, flavonoids present in it exhibit antioxidant properties thereby preventing blood clot formation in arteries. Flavonoids present in it are extremely beneficial as they regulate cell growth, function as antioxidants, reduce inflammation and prevent the formation of blood clots.

Though red wine is extremely beneficial for the overall health of a person, especially for the smooth functioning of the heart, they should not be consumed in excess. This is because red wine can result in increase in weight due to its empty calories and higher intake of alcohol is also associated with higher cancer risk. Thus, follow moderation and indulge in intelligent consumption of red wine to gain its benefits.
