Benefits of Red Meat
Did you know red meat is not only tasty but also healthy? However, when we talk about the health benefits of red meat, it is important to add the term ‘lean’ before it. This is because it is lean red meat which is beneficial for your overall health. Given below is an explanation on why and how red meat can help you stay healthy and happy.
Red meat has some important nutrients required for healthy body. For instance, it is a good source of protein and energy. However, since animal foods are also high in fats, their consumption should be moderate. According to research, lean red meat trimmed of visible fat does not raise total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol levels. Since lean red meat is low in saturated fat, it can be included as a part of healthy diet.
However, remember to add the important ‘lean’ to red meat. It was widely believed that people who want to lose weight should not consume red meat due to its high fat content. However, new studies have shown the opposite as they stress that consuming lean red meat can help in weight loss as they are more nutrient dense and satisfying than carbohydrate foods. Lean red meat consumption can provide your body with various essential nutrients like iron, zinc, vitamin B12, Vitamin B6 and niacin. Moreover it has been found that the zinc in meat is absorbed better than the zinc in grains and legumes.
Though red meat has been found to be healthy and uplifting for the overall health of a person, you need to keep in mind that the meat is lean and trimmed of all fats. Thus, while buying always look for cuts labeled “lean” or “extra lean.” Moreover, the quantity of servings should be moderate so that you gain the benefits of red meat without its drawbacks.
