Benefits of Green Tea
You must have heard the buzz everywhere which is all about green tea and its health benefits. While most of us have agreed that green tea is a health drink, very few of us are actually aware of the reason behind the labeling of it as a health product. Green Tea is getting all the attention in the scientific world due to its antioxidant component epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) which is believed to be a storehouse of medicinal and health friendly properties. It has been found that drinking Green Tea can help in the lowering of cholesterol levels along with aiding in the inhibition of the growth of cancerous cells. If a small cup of tea can provide so many health benefits, it is worth changing your habit to adopt green tea as your daily health drink.
The secret to the power of green tea lies in its rich content of EGCG which is a powerful anti-oxidant which helps in killing cancerous cells without harming the healthy tissues of the body. It also has a healthy effect on one’s heart as along with lowering LDL cholesterol levels, it helps in preventing abnormal blood clots which can cause heart attacks and strokes. In addition, Green Tea leaves provide an overall health protection due to their ability to strengthen the immune system of a person. According to a recent research, green teas can help in the prevention of tooth decay as it has bacteria destroying abilities. It is due to this reason that many deodorants and creams prepared from green tea leaves are appearing in the markets.
The reason why green tea is preferred over other type of teas is because the former’s leaves are steamed which prevent the oxidation of EGCG compound. In contrast to green tea, other teas like black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves which convert EGCG into other compounds thereby killing its healthy and beneficial nature. One should thus always go in for green tea to utilize its health benefits and to prevent oneself from problems like cancer, arthritis, infections and heart problems amongst others.
