Benefits of Afternoon Naps
There are times when you might get up feeling sleepy and fatigued after an 8 hour sleep while a short nap of even 15 minutes refreshes your mind and body. Most of us must have dealt with this condition and would have often wondered about it. There is a contradictory string of thought when it comes to afternoon naps. While some people link it with laziness and weight gain, there are others who look at naps as a beneficial activity.
According to research, an afternoon nap is helpful to refresh and re-energize your mind and body. Even 15 minutes to half an hour nap is enough to make you more alert and active. There are times when you don’t get a proper night’s sleep. Your body needs proper rest and sleep to remain active. In such a condition, afternoon nap really helps. Additionally, it has been found that people who do not take afternoon naps and exert themselves throughout the day face not only lack of efficiency but also emotional mood swings.
According to research, having a quick but peaceful afternoon nap can also help keep your cardiovascular system in healthy working condition and it also helps in controlling blood pressure. Most importantly, a quick nap provides a break from the stressful condition of every day’s work and exertion.
It is but obvious that a person with a fresh mind and energy will perform much better than a person who is toiling throughout the day without giving break to his mind and body. Thus, you need to understand the importance of sleep and sometimes a nap can provide the required rest and energy that is needed for high performance and efficiency.
As mentioned above, the benefits of afternoon naps are many, right from physical health to emotional health. Thus, the next time you take a nap, don’t feel guilty about it. After all, you are only de-stressing and re-energizing your mind and body.
