Bathroom Safety Tips

August 24, 2009

bathroomTo make your house comfortable and danger free, you need to ensure proper safety measures in all the rooms and departments of your house. Bathroom is potentially a dangerous area as water can pose many risks if proper safety tips are not adhered to. This article will provide some basic bathroom safety tips that will help in preventing unwanted accidents.

To begin with, you must pay attention to shower and bathtub safety, especially when you have small children or old people at home. Never leave a small child alone in the bath tub as that can pose risk of drowning. A small child or a baby must be always supervised by an adult during bath time.

Injuries and accidents due to slipping and falling in bathrooms are very common. Such incidents can lead to serious injuries too. Thus, you must ensure that you don’t have slippery floors in the bathroom.

Similarly, you should have a non-slip mat in your bathroom. After having a bath, mop away the stagnant water so that you reduce your chances of a fall. Also, you should never rush when having a bath. This can increase your risk of a fall.

Most of us use many electrical appliances in the bathroom but such items can lead to shock and injuries if proper safety measures are not adhered to. You should never plug an electrical appliance in a wet area.

Installing ground fault interrupter outlets in the bathroom can help in providing protection from accidental electrical shocks. Also, while using electrical appliances in bathrooms, you should ensure your hands are dry and you are wearing slippers.

If you have children at home, you must keep items like soaps, shampoos, scissors, razors, curling irons and others away from their reach. Keep such things in a cabinet and install child safety locks.

Follow the above given bathroom safety tips to avoid bathroom accidents and injuries.
