Most of the times when remodeling and decorating the house we tend to overlook our bathroom design. While it may be the smallest room in the house but a beautiful and modern bathroom can serve as the ultimate personal refuge for an individual.

So whether you want to enjoy a week shower or soak in a luxurious bubble bath, having the perfect bathroom design can make this a very pleasurable experience for you.

The first step to choosing a great design for your bathroom is perfect planning. Decide the color scheme or choose a bathroom style and theme to suit your needs. You can choose contemporary, traditional or country style bathroom design.

For adding some old world charms to your bathroom design opt for a traditional bathroom or if you prefer clean lines then a contemporary bathroom is the perfect choice for you. Based on the style and theme that you choose, you can then select the color scheme along with the materials and accessories for the bathroom. When planning out the bathroom style consider your budget carefully.

The walls can be decorated with bold colors or pastel shades based on the size of the bathroom. Light soft colors for small bathrooms can make them appear larger while bold colors in large bathrooms impart a cozy and warm feeling to the overall look. For the bathroom flooring use durable ceramic or stone tiles. There are a number of textures and colors that you can use for tiles.

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of bathroom design. Choose your lighting placement with care so that there are no shadows cast in the room. An ideal height would be the forehead height. Moreover use lights that are bright and clear and appear to be closer to natural lights. Use two fixtures on opposite sides of walls to light up the entire space. Choose from light fixture types such as bar light or torches mounted on metal walls.

Choose the bathroom accessories with care. Based on the style of your bathroom choose classic clawfoot bathtubs or modern spa bathtubs which are jet powered. Multiple head showers or jet powered shower tub combos are also quite popular.

You can choose wall hung or pedestal sinks for smaller bathrooms or use a large vanity or countertop for the larger bathrooms. Add mirrors to the bathroom to make it look larger and choose storage spaces for your bathroom linen. Installing luxuries like collectibles, figurines, potted flowers and beautiful bright rugs and towels can enhance the look of your bathroom.

Good informative article. Might be worth mentioning the effect that shiny surfaces can have in a small bathroom. Mirrors and metal reflect light and make bathrooms look bigger. Sometimes a budget suite can be ‘glammed up’ with some fabulous accessories and improve the look considerably.
