Usually, diseases like diabetes and hypertension are the ones which require special diet. However, diet plays an important role in our overall health and wellness and thus paying attention to your diet can help in preventing various problems. This article will talk about the relationship between the problem of asthma and the diet one consumes.
Asthma is a medical problem which leads to wheezing and difficulty in breathing. There are many factors that can trigger an asthmatic attack and food or diet is one of them.
There are some people who are allergic to certain food items like eggs, fish, milk and others and consumption of such items leads to inflammation and congestion in the airway passage. Thus, one should clearly identify one’s triggers and avoid intake of such food items.
Along with avoiding food items that trigger your asthma attack, there are also certain food items you should avoid if you are asthmatic. People suffering from the problem of asthma should avoid having cold drinks, beer, sour fruit juices, and drinks that contain colorings. In addition, sour fruits and ripe bananas should also be avoided.
According to latest research, it has been found that a Mediterranean diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, and nuts can help people suffering from asthma. Such people should try to limit their intake of junk food, especially one which is highly oily and fried.
Asthma is a problem that often leads to congestion in the chest region. Thus, you should try to limit the intake of food items that tend to produce phlegm. Food items like rice and curd are thus best avoided.
It’s not just the food you eat but also how you eat that matters. Chew your food well, eat slowly, and avoid over-stuffing yourself. This will not only help in reducing the risk of an asthma attack, but will also aid in your overall health.
