All About Skin Discoloration

You must have heard of the problem of skin discoloration which acts as a major blow on one’s beauty. Usually caused by harsh rays of sun, pollutants and dust, skin discoloration is a condition in which the color of the skin changes from paleness of the skin to its turning dark and even bluish. There are various forms of skin discoloration which are affecting a significant amount of people due to changing environmental conditions. It is also caused by some sort of allergy or immune reaction and certain skin discoloration are natural which occur as a form of birthmark. Given below is a detailed analysis of various kinds of skin discoloration and the reasons for it.

A general skin discoloration problem is that of paleness which is usually caused due to anemia and can also be caused due to other ailments like leukemia or heart ailments. This leads to a loss of natural glow of skin but it is different from hypo-pigmentation in which the skin losses its pigment leading to whitening of skin. On the contrary, hyper-pigmentation is a skin condition in which the skin attains a darker color due to higher release of pigments by skin cells. Jaundice also leads to a form of skin discoloration as people suffering from this problem are usually characterized by the yellowing of their skin. Too much exposure to sun and pollutants can lead to the darkening of skin. Sun rays are very harmful for one’s skin as along with skin darkening, they can also lead to redness of the skin in the form of skin rashes. Another form of skin discoloration is termed as cyanosis which is characterized by the skin turning into bluish or purplish color. This usually occurs due to a lack of oxygen in blood and is an indicator of some serious ailment.

One should protect one’s skin from harmful UV rays and from pollutants and chemicals to prevent the problem of skin discoloration. In addition, get yourself checked as changes in skin color are also an indication of some internal ailment.
