All about Heatstroke

heatstrokeWith the approaching of summers, we often hear about heat strokes and how one should prevent oneself from them. Let’s first understand in detail the exact meaning and implication of a heatstroke.

When one’s body is exposed to high heat and humid conditions, the temperature of the body elevates accompanied by dehydration. This condition is termed as heat stroke and can be extremely dangerous and even fatal if proper care and attention is not given.

After having understood the meaning of heatstroke, let’s understand its symptoms and warning signs. The person suffering from a heat stroke can collapse as there is a drop in energy level and a fall in blood pressure, making the person weak and pale.

We associate summers and heat with sweating. However, the person suffering from heat stroke will not sweat.

This in turn will lead to rising temperature as the person will not be able to lower his temperature through the process of sweating. As mentioned above, a heatstroke is often accompanied by dehydration, electrolyte loss and its associated complications.

Heatstroke can occur to anyone. Thus, it is necessary to take extra precautions during hot and humid conditions to prevent this problem. Always keep yourself well hydrated through adequate intake of water. Avoid going out during peak sunny conditions.

If you have to go out, then you should protect yourself through light, loose and comfortable clothes and certain necessary accessories like hats, caps and goggles.

During hot days, you should always aim to stay in a place which is well ventilated as that helps in keeping your body at normal temperature. Also, don’t overexert yourself and also limit your outdoor activities during peak hot and humid conditions.

Heatstroke is a problem that can be easily prevented. Thus, take extra care during the summer conditions to avoid undesirable consequences of a heatstroke.
