About irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common disorders. Make sure that you do not neglect symptoms like persistence constipation, diarrhea along with abdominal cramps lightly because they can be the major signs of irritable bowel syndrome.
In IBS, the functions of intestine get affected badly. Usually, the food is pushed into the intestinal tact and then to the rectum as muscles contract and relax in a well-coordinated manner, but in IBS the muscles movement gets either faster or slower than normal thus resulting either in constipation or diarrhea.
The reasons for IBS are still unknown but stress makes the situation worse. Stress affects the nervous signal to the intestines which already are functioning abnormally and thus worsening it more. IBS patients suffer from anxiety, depression and tremendous amount of stress. People in their 50’s may also experience weight loss and anemia in the early stages of IBS.
IBS occurs at any age, but mostly after 25 years. It can present with other ailments too a person may be suffering from or can start after a medical condition. It could also be due to gas intolerance of the intestines. It is often seen that IBS starts after an intestinal infection which damages the motility of the intestine. It can also be due to allergy to certain food products like milk items.
According to a rough estimate, six out of ten women and four out of ten men suffers from this problem and the extent of disorder varies from person to person. Likewise treatment for IBS too varies from person to person. Stress free lifestyle and well planned diet is very much important to manage and control this disorder. To control depression and anxiety levels, even doctor prescribe antidepressant to their patients so that it does not affect the IBS to a greater extent.
