Yes, that right! Sixteen ornamentals for the bride. The bride is all decked up with sixteen types of ornamentals for her wedding day. These are combindely called as solah shringar. There are things to dress her from head to toe .These ornaments and novelties are not just used to beautify the bride but are also believed to grant blessing to the bride for entering into the life of matrimony. These splendid ornaments are as follows.

Starting form the head, the hair of the bride are washed. These are oiled with aromatic oil. Later flowers are used to decorate the hair. Floral ornaments are also used to cover the head.

The next thing is to make a paste of oil, turmeric, gram flour. This domestic cream is used as scrub for the bride’s arms and hands.

A golden tikka or bhor is used to decorate the head of the bride.

The face of the bride is beautified by putting kajal on the eyes. Rouge is applied on the cheeks and color to the lips.

Nose- ring or the nath , which is a made of beads and pearls, is for the nose.

There are jhumkas or ear jewelry to cover the ears.

The neck bears necklaces of various lengths and shapes. These are of gold, traditionally. But with the changing times diamond and white gold necklaces have come into fashion.

Bangles and bracelet lower arms and for the upper arms we have armlets. The hands and feet are decorated with henna designs which are believed to have fertility qualities. Henna also symbolizes prosperity for the married couple.

Sometimes the feet are decorated with Katha. A red line is drawn around the feet. Then anklets are worn. Followed by, adoring toes with toe rings. Likewise, rings are worn in the fingers of the hand.

A sensuous gold or silver belt is worn around the waist. The belt not just enhances the waist area but also helps in holding the sari in place. A red sari is the sixteenth item to complete the solah shringar of the bride.
