The people of kerela do not bother much about deep customs and traditions. They keep everything simple and understandable. Here is description of each pre wedding malayalee ritual which is always followed before the main day function.

Muhurtham

Well, as we know that Hindus believe a lot in Kundli matching. Therefore, these horoscopes of the girl and the boy are exchanged by the two families. They get these horoscopes matched by their family priest. After the settlement of the match-making, an auspicious date for the wedding ceremony is confirmed. This is done the purohit.

The wedding is never performed in the seasons of Aashad, Bhadrapad and Shunya. These are believed to bring bad luck to the married couples. No Tamil marriage is held in these days.

The season of Bhadrapad falls between September fifteen and October fifteen. While, the month of Shunya includes days between December fifteen to January fifteen

Nischayam

It is a form of formal affirmation by the elders of both families for the fixation of the marriage between the boy and the girl. The girl and the boy do not attend this function. This ceremony only observes a gathering of their parents and elders of the family. Gifts in the form of sweets and fruits are exchanged here.

This pre wedding malayalee ritual may also be called as a form of engagement.

Traditional meal

Vegetarian meal has a special space in Hindu religions. As far as Tamil weddings are concerned, this seems to be a very simple ceremony. Here the bride is asked to take a seat acing towards the east direction. A five course meal is prepared in the bride`s paternal home. The bride eats this meal with her family while seated facing towards the east.
