Here is a briefing of post wedding maharashtrian rituals.

Manpan

In this ritual, the mother of the bride gives a sari to the groom’s mother. A tea-set is also given. In the ceremony of vyeti bhet, which is performed the next morning of the wedding, the father of the bride gives a silver glass gift to the groom’s father. This is an optional ritual.

Varat

The bride adieus her goodbye to her parents, her childhood friends and all her dear ones to leave with her groom fro good. It is a sensitive ritual.

Grihapravesha

The bride and the groom receive a warm welcome at the groom’s house. The mother of the groom performs aarti for both in order to ward off all evils. Then the bride is asked to push a pot full of rice grains forward with her right foot. By doing so, she is asked to enter the house with this right foot.

The bride is considered to be Goddess Laxmi. It is believed by this ceremony that the new bride brings with herself wealth and prosperity for the house.

Soonmukh

This is one os the interesting post wedding maharashtrian rituals. Here, the mother of the groom sits in between the bride and the groom. A mirror is placed. In this mirror, the bride and the groom look at each other. After this ritual they give sugar to all those present her.

Halad Utaravane

This is done by the suvasini. The mother of the groom opens the knot of kankan-halkund and sets the couple free. This symbolizes that now the couple has the freedom to go wherever they want to go.

Tikhati Mejwani

Especially in the CKP community, where non-vegetarian meals are common, a feast is organized where menu is primarily non-vegetarian. The main dishes include mutton baryonic or the mutton vade. This is organized by both families but only for close relatives.
