Jains keep the wedding rituals very simple. They do keep their wedding very traditional and ritual, but still keep it very simple. Talking about wedding and pre wedding rituals, and postwedding Jain rituals, the rituals are kept very simple.
The wedding went off very well. Phera’s took place on the set time; kanyavaran also took place according to the set rituals. Havan also happened to be very peaceful and granthi bandhan was also traditional and blissful. After successful conclusion of the wedding, post wedding Jain rituals are performed.
The first ceremony after the conclusion of wedding happens to be the ashirwaad ceremony, in which the newlywed couple seek blessings from the elders. So the elderly family members of both bride and groom come forward to bless the newlywed couple for a happy and a peaceful married life.
Following the ashirwaad ceremony, the girl is bid farewell and she goes with the groom and lives with him and his family thereafter. The custom that is performed at the time when the newlywed couple reaches home is called sva graha aagamana. This is actually welcoming the bride in a warm way. And make her feel at home and welcome her as a new member of the family.
Jina graham dhan arpana tradition is then followed by the family of bride and as well as the groom’s family. They give away alms in the Jain temple. This is done as a token of thanksgiving to the god. And finally a reception party is organised which is hosted by groom’s family, wherein the bride is introduced to her new family and friends. The trend of reception parties has been inherited from western countries but is gaining popularity in India as well. It is just a formal way of introducing the bride to her new relatives. Hence the couple lives happily ever after.
