Post wedding Bengalirituals is only a stretch to the celebrations in Bengali marriages. There are few rituals that stand characteristic only to Bengali marriages. Bengali people seem to have a habit of doing every thing with a difference. A simple ceremony is transformed into an elaborative celebration with its décor and rituals.
Bidaai
It is a sentimental tradition out of other postwedding Bengali rituals. The bride says her final goodbyes to all her near and dear ones. The ambience becomes nostalgic as the emotions take their peak when the tears of detachment from her paternal house start to pour.
The father of the bride makes her sit into the car and gives her hand into the groom’s hand asking him to take care of her.
Kaal Ratri
One of the interesting post wedding Bengalirituals, according to which the bride and the groom are separated for a night and are not allowed to sleep together. This is done in order to let them both have proper rest and sleep so they may prepare well for the rest of the marriage ceremonies. It is called Kaal Ratri probably because according to old beliefs, the night becomes difficult for the couple to spend without each other.
Bou Bhaat
When the bride cooks her first meal in her new house and serves it to her husband and his family members then this occasion is called Bou Bhaat. Sometimes, the members of the family give her small gifts in appreciation for her cooking.
Bodhu Boron
A reception is held to introduce the bride to all the members in the social circle of the groom. everyone brings gifts for the bride. Some even give her cash in a colourful envelope. This is called as Shagun.
Phool Shojja
In order to compromise for the Kaal Ratri , the bride and the groom are especially adorned with floral ornaments and are left alone all by themselves.
