Marriage ceremony
When the auspicious time arrives, arrival of the good Muhurt, the maternal of the bride leads her to the wedding canopy or the Mandap.
The bride and the groom are not allowed to have a look at each other. tree is a antarpaat between them. The Vedic mantras are recited, thereafter the antarpaat is raised. The people who are present to witness the occasion shower the couple with Akshata. Akshata are unbroken rice.
Then the bride and the groom exchange floral garlands. After this they take seven circlets around the sacred fire while Vedic hymns are being recited.
Laxmi Narayan Puja
In maharashtrian wedding tradition, the groom is considered to the incarnation of lord Vishnu, the preserver of the world. The bride is considered o be the incarnation of goddess Lakhshmi. It is because of this that after the wedding has been solemnized, they priest conducts the ceremony of Narayan Laxmi pujan for the couple. It is believed to please these deities and they bless the couple for a good married life.
Jhal Phirwne
It is one of the interesting maharashtrianweddingrituals in which the hand of the girl is officially given in the hand of the boy. This ceremony is called by the name of Jhal Phirwne. In a simple traditional Hindu marriage, it is called by the name of Kanyadaan. This is done by the father of the bride. If the father of the bride is not available then it is performed by elder brother or any other elder male of the bride`s family. This ritual also observes a very interesting thing. A dish of cane is taken. In this cane dish twenty one earthen lamps are paced and lit. . it is kept on the bride`s head. This dish is taken to the family of bridegroom where each member is asked to accept her as their own daughter by the father of the bride.
