Increasing Digits, Increasing Devils

Contemporary life style has made inter-caste marriages quite common these days.

But a bitter truth still remains the same-the non-acceptance of inter-caste marriages. The lower caste community like SC and ST being the usual targets for atrocities It is sad that some communities simply boy-cott and even brutally pester people who give agreement to their children for such marriages. The happening in Bhopal with parents of two daughters is a shame on the name of humanity.

A Taste of Humor

A point worth mentioning is that the perspective of inter-caste marriages is taken humorously by some families. For example the marriage between a Punjabi and Madrasi or that between a Gujarati and a Bengali has been used as popular Bollywood themes. Even if the bride is welcomed joyously in the family she may still have to get used to some of the major life-style changes. Imagine you wake up in morning with craving for aloo-parantha but all you can see at the breakfast table is bowls of idlis and uttapam. The cultures and the rituals may be different but humor is universal. Try it .Know the language of the in-laws well or a wrong pronunciation might get you in trouble.

Aid from Govt.

The government too is trying to encourage these types of marriages. The financial assistance of Rs 25,000 (Rs 12,500 given in cash and the rest in the form of National Savings Certificate) is given to such couples in which either or both belong to a lower caste.

Interestingly, Medical community too encourages inter-caste marriages. They believe that some of the communities have greater frequency for a few types of genetic disorders. By these types of marriages such functional genes can become dormant.
