Buddhists believe in keeping the weddings simple and not involve in any complicated rituals and ceremonies. Well on the day of the wedding, early morning the bride’s and groom’s families arrive at the temple. A number of trays are c, and jewellery as the bride’s dowry. One the trays contain a pair of candles which are lit in front of Lord Buddha according Buddhist wedding rituals. Union of the two families is symbolised by the lighting up the two candles.
The bride and the groom then separately ask for blessings from the shrine of Lord Buddha. The wedding ceremony according to the Buddhist wedding rituals starts with the recitation of tisarana, pancasila and the vandana. After the recitation, the bride and groom light the candles and incense sticks. Then the flowers are offered to Lord Buddha’s image.
Afterwards the bride and the grooms take vows in front of Lord Buddha’s image. The vow that the groom takes is “ Towards my wife I undertake to love and respect her, be kind and considerate, be faithful, delegate domestic management, provide gifts to please her."
And similarly the bride takes the vow: "Towards my husband I undertake to perform my household duties efficiently, be hospitable to my in-laws and friends of my husband, be faithful, protect and invest our earnings, discharge my responsibilities lovingly and conscientiously." And the couple then exchanges rings. arried along by the groom’s family. These trays contain fruits, wine, traditional cake, tea, meat
After the wedding concludes after the vows, the parents of the couple and everyone else present there recite Mangal Sutta and Jayamangala Gatha. Everyone around does the recital to bless the newlywed couple. After the wedding is successfully completed, the couple prefers to stay at girl’s house. And the girl’s departure from her paternal house is selected then which is between first and the tenth day after marriage.
