Vitamin B8 is also called as Biotin. Vitamin B8 is one of the most important members in the vitamin B complex group and takes the lion's share in its composition. It is water-soluble and destroyed by alcohol. So normally, the alcohol users are mostly having the deficiency of these vitamins. It is the only vitamin, which regulates metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Let us know the function of this vitamin in human body.

Vitamin B8 or biotin plays vital role for a healthy immune system and directly involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It affects the growth of hair and prevents premature graying. It is also helpful in case of hair loss and hence it is mostly used in hair oils and hair shampoos for better performance. It helps to maintain a healthy skin as well as nervous system and controls proper distributions of the color pigments. It utilizes protein, folic acid, and vitamin B12 in a proper way. The most important function of this vitamin is it pays an important role in synthesis of the genetic material (DNA & RNA). It helps in production of red blood cell and proper function of the nervous system. It helps homo-cytosine metabolism and solves the pigmentation problem.

Biotin is widely available in food and in some rare cases, the deficiency of biotin is found. It is important in the period of pregnancy while the child is growing and DNA & RNA of the cells are created. As there is requirement of the huge red blood cell during pregnancy, biotin, and folic acid are provided as a supplement for the pregnant. It is necessary for reducing the high risk of brain and spinal cord defects. In some cases, the deficiency results muscular weaknesses, pain and pricking of the skins.
