Use your credit card safely

While there are many advantages of using credit cards but the rise in the number of incidents of credit card frauds and identity thefts are preventing us from using credit cards. However, if we are a little careful while using our credit cards we could help ourselves from any form of financial damage.

Sign your card
Don’t forget to put your signature on your credit card as soon as you receive it.

Be careful at the ATM
Make sure that no intruder is bothering you in the ATM. Enter your PIN is such a way that no one can get hold of it or memorize it.

Don’t be careless with your receipts
An easy source of your credit card account number and PIN are your receipts at the ATM, credit card statements and receipts. Destroy these papers complete before discarding them. After you purchase an item, make sure that you get your card back. Personally destroy any canceled sales slip.

Do not give your credit card account number and PIN over the telephone
You might not be a discourteous person by nature, but while receiving unsolicited telephone calls do not give your credit card numbers. Even when you are completely sure of the legitimacy of the merchant, do not give your credit card number over a cordless phone. Fraudsters often use radio scanners to spy over calls made from cordless phones.

Often credit card holders have been duped by calls made immediately after placing an order with a merchant. The person calling you claims to have missed your credit card number and asks you to repeat it once more. You are advised not to entertain such calls. You should collect the contact number and name of the person and verify it with your bank about the veracity of the call.

Do not accept credit cards from undisclosed issuer

Check you credit card statements
Carefully check your monthly credit card statements. In case of any error or fraud, notify the authorities immediately.
