Unraveling Weight Loss Myths

08-dieting-tips-online1Never there is available any one solution to lose weight. Add to these the myths with which we are fed upon, mostly unknowingly. Here are some myths you need to think about and correct if you already are a victim of them.

Myth 1: If obesity has been running in the family for centuries, then nothing can help you from becoming an obese too.

- This however is partly true. It is correct that genetics plays an important role which means that if your family suffers from obesity, you too will gain weight no matter how much you are careful. But it does not mean that you cannot take any preventive measures to keep your body weight under control. Keep a tab on calorie intake and do regular exercises.

Myth 2: Skipping meals will help me lose weight.

On the contrary, skipping whole meals will make you increase weight because when we skip meals, the metabolism of our body slows down. Later, these people tend to over eat to make up for the skipped meals. Instead, cut down on fatty foods and eat regular and proper meals- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yes, keep a check on the portion of food you consume each time.  Even doctors recommend to having small meals every few hours if you do not want to have full meals.

Myth 3: One should keep changing diet often.

This is a strict no. I agree that you need to follow ‘trial and error’ method to see which diet suits you best, but after doing so do not change your diet all the time. You can make changes in the diet you are having but do not run after new diet plans all the time. Frequent change of diet leads to health problems such as depression and gall bladder. Crash diets are a big no-no. They reduce kilos in weeks but the repercussions are hard to handle.

Myth 4: Fats and carbohydrates are to be avoided completely.

In fact, you should concentrate more on having a wholesome and nutritious food which includes carbohydrates and fats. But yes, do not have refined carbohydrates and saturated fats. Unsaturated fats are healthy for you as they absorb nutrients and make you feel to eat less.
