Tips to Treat Hard Corns


hard-cornHard corn is a compact mass of cell that has a solid center. Hard cones are usually found on top of the toes or on the outside of the little toe. On applying pressure the corns becomes soft and starts to ache. The major reasons for getting corns are the deformities of the foot, arthritis, heredity or bunions. If you have a hard cone then it is better to consult a doctor and get it removed as it may cause infection later.

How to Treat Hard Corns

1.    Lotions containing vitamin E, cocoa butter or lanolin may help you to soften the hard corns and there by reducing the size of the corn. At certain times it may help you to eradicate the corn.

2.    Dip your feet in luke warm water for some time and this will benefit you to soften the corn. Then rub the corn surface with a pumice stone, emery board or stick. This will rub down the hard surface of the corn.

3.    You can also prefer keratolytic therapy to remove the corns. There are plasters that contain 40% salicylic acid and also collodion that consist of 17 % salicylic acid solution. You can apply any of these over the corns and remove them with warm water. Dry your feet with blotting paper and apply ointments that contain 5-10% salicylic acid. Apply an adhesive bandage over the corn. Practice this twice a week and finally the corn becomes loose and you can dislodge it easily.

4.    Try to apply a non medicated plaster especially made for corn over the corns while you wear a shoe. It will protect the painful spots and also prevent it from getting harder. Take care to not to damage the surrounding tissues while removing the plaster and also avoid wearing the same plaster for more than one day.

5.    Seek the help of an orthopedic surgeon for correcting the deformities of the foot like straitening hammertoe which will prevent the formation of further corns.

6.    Your doctor can also shave your corns down over a broadened period of time. For this you have to do regular follow ups.
