Cover Fabric Selection
• Measure the duvet width and length
• Washable lightweight linens are ideal choice for duvet fabric
• The cloth width for the cover of the duvet must be 54” wide and two lengths are required. The cloth must be 5” more than actual measurements.
• Take two cloths of equal lengths for the back cover and the dimension should be 3” more than actual requirement.
• The width of a duvet is normally 104” and hence you should choose the fabric of 54” width. For wider duvet add extra fabric.
• Ensure that the extra fabric match with the main fabric. Small prints are ideal since they are uniform.
• Before you stitch the duvet, the fabric has to be washed.
Sewing the duvet Cover
• Fold the fabric of the front panel lengthwise with wrong sides on top; iron this cloth so that a crease is formed in the middle and unfold it. Repeat this for back panels.
• Mark a line along the crease using a yardstick and marking pen and cut along this line using dressmaker shears. You will get 6 pieces for sewing.
• Pin one front panel to a side of another front panel uncut edge. Ensure that the fabric sides are proper.
• After sewing the edges of the fabric you should open the seam. The seam should be half an inch wide.
• Repeat this process for all the cut fabric pieces including the extra ones if required.
• Measure the dimensions of both portions of front and back covers. The panel size must be 2” more than the duvet size.
• Place front panel fabric on the back panel fabric and ensure that their right sides are together. Pin them.
• Sew with a seam of half an inch and leave the seams open.
• Stitch the cut edges of the bottom cover by folding half an inch.
• Snap closures are to be attached to the cover opening.
• Attach the ball portions as required.
