Student Insurance Tips
Having student insurance is mandatory in several universities. This is especially required for international students. Student insurance policies help to meet medical expenses, and cover loss or damage of possessions.
Types of student insurances
Student health insurance
This is the most important insurance coverage for students. This policy covers medical expenses, including costs of hospitalization and doctor’s fees. By paying a higher premium, you can include preventive checkups, dental care, and cost of medicines, mental ailments and substance abuse treatments in your insurance policy.
Student renter’s insurance
Student renter’s insurance covers losses and damage of personal possessions from fire, natural disaster, theft, vandalism etc. Often parent’s content insurance can be extended to protect belongings of students. However, these content insurance plans are applicable only for possessions kept in a locked room. Unfortunately, it is always not possible to keep your belongings in such a safe custody.
Therefore, it is advisable for students to have a separate insurance coverage. Often student insurance policies do not cover thefts caused by unforced entry. Since it is not possible to ensure, that all doors of the hall are properly locked, buy a policy that covers unforced entry.
Student liability insurance
If a policyholder unintentionally damages someone else’s property, or hurts someone, the insurance company will cover the financial losses.
Student car insurance
Given the poor driving records of young adults, buying a student car insurance can be quite expensive. However, if you can maintain a good driving record, you can avail student car insurance at a low premium. A student car insurance policy will give you similar benefits as any other auto insurance plan. It will provide financial protection against accidents and theft.
Student travel insurance
Student travel insurance is beneficial for students studying abroad, or while on an education excursion. The insurance policy will cover medical expenditure, loss of luggage and cancellation or delay of flight.
