To stay healthy we need good food and therefore to concentrate on cooking healthy meals, we need a nice kitchen. The basic layout of a kitchen should be such that the person working in it faces least hassles in working in it. You can design your kitchen according to your choice and availability of space.
However, the basic design for any kitchen requires setting up an efficient work triangle. The cooking range, the sink and the refrigerator forms each of the three points of the work triangle. By careful planning, the distance of each of the points of the triangle should be designed in such a manner that it provides maximum efficiency to the user. Whichever design you opt for in your kitchen, but a proper kitchen model is one, which requires the user to take the least number of steps to move between each of the three points of the triangle while cooking and cleaning.
While there are different kitchen designs but if your kitchen space is small, you can design only one-wall and gallery-shaped kitchens.
One-wall or I-shaped kitchen
If you have to accommodate your kitchen in a small space, go for a single wall or I-shaped design. The sink should be fitted in the area between the cook top and the refrigerator. The refrigerator should be placed in such a manner so that its door opens away from the sink.
Corridor or galley kitchen
Corridor or galley shaped kitchen is often found in small apartments with limited kitchen space. In this design, the stove is placed along a wall of the kitchen and the sink and the refrigerator occupy the space along the opposite wall. This form of kitchen could be used only by one cook. Given the galley-shaped design of the kitchen, it has two entries. To reduce traffic flow, you should close one of the entries. If such an arrangement is not possible, place the refrigerator at the end of the corridor, so that other members in your house can easily access the refrigerator without disturbing the person who is cooking. Storage is a major problem in such kitchens. To solve this problem install wall cabinets or tall storage cabinets.
