How to choose paint for Smooth Finish
While planning to renovate your house, painting of house is one of important issues. If you are going for paint the house yourself, you must know few things about paint before starting you job of painting.
There are two main types of paints; oil based (also known as the solvent based) and the latex paint (water based). Off course, with increasing technology, you have choice of other paints also, but these are two commonly found paints. People, usually think, matte is always better. But this is not the case, glossy paints tend to reflect the light and our eyes ignore the imperfections on the walls. While in a matte finish, one can see every little detail and every little imperfection of the wall. It is best to go for a semi-gloss paint.
Oil Based Paints:
Oil based paints are made up of oil and resins. They easily glide off any surface as they are thin. They just stick to the surface and also difficult to clean. While using this paint, you will also needs things like paint thinner, primer and turpentine oil. Though it is more durable than the latex paint but at the same time it is more smelly and toxic. It is also costlier and difficult to use.
Latex paint:
This kind of paint is thicker than the oil based paint. The main advantage of this paint is you can get smooth finish even in one coat, if done in proper way. It just needs water and soap to clean it off. Latex paint is popular choice over oil based paint as it costs less and is a healthier choice. But it is less durable than the oil based paint.
How to get Smooth Finish of walls:
Apart from the choice of paints, smooth finish of walls depends upon the preparation you make before painting. Fill the holes and dents in the wall and when they get dry, rub the sand paper over the wall to get it smooth. Now prime it using the primer. Primer ensures the smooth finish. It also prevents the wall from absorbing more paint. Use a roller to get an even painting. Let it dry and see if you need to do second coat.
