Vagina contains a fungus called ‘candida albicans’ in small amounts. Along with this is present a bacteria called ‘lactobacillus acidophilus’ whose function is to maintain the level of the fungus and let it not exceed. Vaginal yeast infection happens when the balance turns upside down and leads to the growth of yeast.
Here is a list of some home remedies.
1. Tea Tree Oil:
Coat a tampoon with lubrication and pour some drops of tea tree oil on it. Insert this in the vagina and keep it for few hours. This method is hugely popular in US.
If you are not allergic to garlic, this could be the best treatment for you. Peel a clove of garlic. Now make a tampoon out of gauze. Wrap the garlic in the gauze but leave some threads out for you to pull it. Insert this in the vagina before you sleep and remove in the morning. As an alternative, use garlic capsules once a day or as prescribed by a doctor.
Drink 3-4 glasses of buttermilk daily. It restores the bacteria- fungus balance. Once you see the symptoms disappearing, drink plenty of water to flush out the dead yeast.
Coat a tampoon with plain yogurt and insert in the vagina. Keep for an hour and remove. Yogurt contains lactobacillus acidophilus in natural state.
5. Elm Powder:
Mix elm powder with water and apply on the vagina. It reduces the redness and itching.
6. Boric Acid:
Insert 2 boric acid capsules of 300 mg each in the vagina. Keep this treatment on for a week at least. Discontinue usage if there is a burning sensation; the sensation is caused when the pills melt inside. It is better to consult a doctor for advice.
7. Potassium Sorbate:
It is easily available at natural food stores. Dilute one tsp of Sorbate in a cup of water. Soak a tampoon in the solution and insert it in the vagina at night. Remove in the morning. Discontinue using it after the symptoms subside.
