Different Uses of Rosemary

Culinary herb

Dried rosemary leaves are used for seasoning meat, fish and soups.

Antioxidant property

Rosemary is a rich source of Vitamin E. Flavonoids, Monoterpenes and Phenolic Diterpenes are the other antioxidant agents present in rosemary. Vitamin E and the other antioxidants, counteract the adverse effect of free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for causing cancer, inflammation of joints, arthritis and appearance of wrinkles.

Rosemary oil is often used as an ingredient in several herbal skin care products. By strengthening blood capillaries, rosemary essential oil improves blood circulation. This rejuvenating effect of rosemary oil makes it a popular ingredient in anti-aging herbal facial treatments.

Preventing cancer

The antioxidant property of rosemary is utilized in treating cancer. According to studies, rosemary extracts work better than several conventional drugs in treating oestrogen imbalance. Oestrogen imbalance is responsible for causing breast cancer.

Diuretic action

The mild diuretic action of rosemary extracts is recommended for treating bloating and ankle inflammation. This herb can significantly improve the function of kidneys. Unlike conventional diuretic medication, rosemary, while increasing urination, does not flush out essential minerals from the body.

Rosemary helps in detoxification. It protects the liver by removing harmful toxins from it.

Disadvantages

Rosemary extracts should not be consumed by people suffering from hypertension or epilepsy.
