One of the most important camping gear which you will carry when you go camping is your sleeping bag. Outdoors is exciting, but uncomfortable. Buying the right sleeping bag will make sure that you get a good night’s sleep, which you will need to enjoy any kind of out door activity. Here are a few tips on how to choose the right one for yourself.
Size: Make sure you buy a sleeping bag that is small enough to retain warmth and long enough for you to fit in comfortably. It should have adequate space to allow you to turn about freely.
Shape: Sleeping bags which are rectangular in shape are usually the cheapest and can be zipped together to be used for two as well. However they are bulky and heavy. Mummy shaped sleeping bags are the warmest. Tapered ones, that is ones that narrow at the end can also be zipped on to each other to make room for two. They have more space than mummy shaped ones and are warmer than the rectangular ones.
The type of fill that your bag contains is important and has to be chosen according to the temperature of the place you are visiting. Goose down is a natural fibre which has been considered to be the best fill for sleeping bags as it is comfortable warm and light. The problem with this fill is that if it gets wet, it takes longer to dry than synthetics do.
Weight: Sleeping bags made for backpackers usually weigh about six pounds or less. If you are going to be carrying it for a long while make sure that you consider its weight before you buy it.
Colour: Dark colours draw more heat from the sun so choosing a dark colour is a good idea. It will dry sooner in case it gets wet and will be warmer if you put it out in the sun before you sleep on it.
