The people of Unites State of America nowadays are quite fond of wearing tattoos on their body. People from various spheres of life are doing tattoos on their body and it has become quite an effective style statement. The fashion trendy people of United States have accepted this ancient art as a part of their trend. But the use of tattoo in the United States does not have a modern presence only. The tattoo history of Unites States goes back in the early nineteenth century when it was first discovered from a sailor’s log.

The tattooing in the early days was commonly called Pricking. This art only existed among the sailors and were not worn by the common people from distinguished class. The Native Americans or as we call them ‘the Red Indians’ used to wear tattoos and the sailors picked the art from them. The tattoo artists were quick to learn this exotic art and soon started their tattoo parlors near various ports. The tattoos that the sailors in those days wore were mainly symbols of courage, patriotism or even fighting the death. It is a noteworthy fact that the first tattoo machine was developed in the United States.

The invention of the tattoo machine made the process faster and perfect. The art of tattooing became quite popular among people other than sailors at around 1940 in United States. The war tattoos also became quite popular in those times. Many Americans wore tattoos to dedicate it to the war heroes. And thus tattoo became a significant part of the American people and their history as well. However the tattoo history of United States depicts the fact of giving this exotic art a mass appeal. American people were the first to consider this unique art form to be fashionable and trendy.

Down the years from its first use, tattoos were started to be seen on famous and celebrated people. Film stars, rock stars wore tattoos on different parts of their body. Thus the use of tattoos became quite extensive and popular among the common people.
