From early times tattoos were done on the body for various health reasons. Heath tattoos were specially seen on people belonging to the South East Asia and South Pacific regions. The early inhabitants of the south pacific islands used health tattoos for healing of ailments. And even in the modern day Tibet, tattoos are worn for heath reasons. The Tibetans wear different kinds of religious tattoos which are symbols of various mantras. Religious symbols like the sacred wheel or the Dharma Chakra as they call it are drawn on the body. The sacred flag is also drawn on the body which helps the person to attain a well balanced physical and mental condition.
While tattoos are used to balance a person’s physical and mental harmony, Tibetans also used the method of tattooing to put in medicines inside the body. The acupuncture points of the body were pricked and the medicines mixed with the ink were inserted in the body. This method worked as healing for the ailing. People of India still use healthtattoos for healing of their spiritual mind. Wearing tattoos of various gods and goddesses is quite a common practice in the rural as well as urban society of India. Many Indians believes that a tattoo of gods and goddesses would cure their mental distress and bring harmony and joy to their life. Sometimes it is purely a spiritual reason for which some Indians wear tattoos.
The modern day scientists have researched the fact that tattooing is an effective way of inserting DNA vaccines rather than the intramuscular injections. The researches also showed that the method of tattooing the DNA vaccine got a stronger response from the antibodies and cells. Successful experiments have been carried out which showed sixteen times higher antibody levels than the intramuscular injections. Thus health tattoos are not only an art form curing spiritual health. But it actually acts as method of applying vaccines of the modern day medical practices.
