Keeping a check on the week-by-week pregnancy is indeed a fair deal, if the mother wants to avoid unneeded worries and anxieties. The pregnancy period generally lasts for 40 weeks and the entire tenure is divided into three equal stages termed as pregnancy trimesters. Let’s go for those important phrases.

The first trimester will start from week 1st and extends up to 14th week. The second trimester will last from 15th week to 26th. The third trimester is the last one and it ranges from week 27 to week 40. As the pregnant woman approaches the 40th week, she is near to experiencing labor pains. This is the time when the woman must be all prepared for delivery. The 3rd trimester is the stage of learning and the expecting mother can attend classes on childbirth and nursing with her spouse so that they can become good parents.

Week 1-4

The 1st week of pregnancy begins with the day of the woman’s last menstrual period. By the end of week four of pregnancy, there would be fertilization of the ovum and the forming of a new life. This is the period when the early pregnancy symptoms will begin showing off.

Week 5-8

The period of pregnancy week 5 to 8 is the appropriate time to take the pregnancy test. It is commonplace for the test to be accurate at this time. By the sixth week, the would-be infant's heart will begin to beating! The future mother might start experiencing something called as morning sickness in the week seven. In addition, by the 8th week, the fetus has tiny arms and legs as the buds!

Week 9-12

the period is now between the 9th and 12th week and here, the pregnant woman’s abdomen gets enlarged to provide a proper space for her fast developing baby. She will notice a variety of changes in the body. The fetus will start moving inside the mom, though she might not necessarily realize this yet. And by the 12th week, the intensity of morning sickness starts coming down giving her relief.

Week 13-16

Between the week 13 and week 16, it is possible to learn the gender of the fetus with a low level of assurance. At the end of the pregnancy week 14, the mother can listen to her future infant's heartbeat during the visit to her doctor or obsgynec. She also feels the movements of her baby, as the bones are now beginning to become hard.

Week 17-20

The period from pregnancy week 17 to pregnancy week 10 marks fast development of internal organs of the fetus and now the fetus is covered with fine hair medically known as 'lanugo.' During this phase of pregnancy, it is executable to learn the gender of the fetus accurately with the help of an ultrasound examination.

Week 21-24

Around the pregnancy week 21, the fetus starts to learn breathing and the pregnant woman might experience few contractions during such phase, as the uterus begins preparation for the duty of giving birth. When the woman reaches the 24th week, the process of fat depositing begins in the fetus that helps maintain the body temperature after the birth. By keeping a check of pregnancy week by week, it becomes easy for the mother to get mentally and physically prepared for negotiating with the changes occurring in her body.

Week 25-28

By this time, the woman’s uterus is crowded and there is less movement for the infant. There is an essential thing to note for the mother: her baby can differentiate between darkness and light and can also hear some sounds from the outside world.

Week 29-32

it is nearly in this pregnancy week 29, the infant’s head grows rapidly in proportion to its rest of the body. Fetus’ eyes and brain are developing to a large extent and when the mother approaches the 32nd week, they are the lungs that remain to be fully grown.

Week 33-36

When the pregnancy week 33 starts, the fetus can open and close the eyes. Its fingernails get developed during this period and during the 36th week; the fetus has a weight of approximately 4 lb and is about 15 inches long.

Week 37-40

This is the ending portion and also the climax of the entire gestational period. By this time all the organs of the infant, except the lungs have been fully developed. Lungs, however, continue to grow and mature. There can be childbirth anytime between the pregnancy week 38 and pregnancy week 40 since the baby is ready to arrive on this world!
