The infant is growing like crazy during pregnancy week nine. By this week of gestational period, most of the aspects of the infant’s physical structure like head, arms, legs and torso are at their original sites. If the mother were to peek in on the tiny infant, she will find they look like a miniature human being (the one having a very huge head!).

Since the infant's organs and limbs are getting formed, in the next few weeks the infant will put on some weight. The infant's tail must have disappeared by now, and the infant's organs and muscles must function on their own and in addition, it is difficult to believe that something so tiny functions so completely… without any great assistance! During pregnancy week nine, the baby's eyelids will conflate shut and will not open up again until the infant is about of 27th week along.

The infant’s face is turning more distinct day-by-day, with the mouth, nose and nostrils turning clearly visible. By 9th week of pregnancy, the little one even has developed sexual organs; nevertheless the health care provider will not be able to discern them so far. Ideally the sex of the unborn can be determined by ultrasound during 18-20 week of the gestational period. The baby's heart could have been divided into four separate chambers by 9th week of pregnancy, as the infant swims about gleefully in its warm and comfortable closet.

Mother’s womb is still developing at pregnancy week nine, now closer to a small cantaloup as compared to grapefruit. By pregnancy week 9 the mother might notice that she feels more bloated and lethargic as compare to before. She might also notice an increase in weight gain that could be more associated with fluid retention rather than its normal weight.

This thing might apply throughout the gestational period. One thing one must avoid doing while pregnant is weighing herself daily. Weight gain could fluctuate as much as 1-5 lbs in the course of even one single day, and this fluctuation could be discouraging. If the mother can hold off until her prenatal consultations, she may avoid the pain of the weight fluctuations.

If, in case, the mother is determined weighing herself frequently during pregnancy, she must consider weighing one time in a week, at the same time of day soon after she gets up in the morning and empty her bladder. Doing this provides the most consistent result and will help eliminating excessive worries about daily weight alterations. When she looks at a new pair of maternity jeans, it certainly relieves the anxiety related to weight changes. However, note that not all the weight she gains is hived away as fatty tissues.

At birth, the newborn could weigh between 6 to 8 lbs. The uterus will expand during pregnancy and might weigh about 2 lbs. The afterbirth or placenta usually weighs 1.5 lbs. The breast tissues will grow during pregnancy and might weigh approximately 1.5 to 2 lbs. The blood volume increases and ads up to 4 lbs of weight. The fluid that has been retained by mother’s body during pregnancy can count as much as 4 lbs.

The amniotic fluid that surrounds the infant will weigh about 2 lbs. The maternal fatty tissues those are stored will add about 7 lbs of weight to mother’s total weight gain. By the end of gestational period, she will gain about 18 to 35 lbs.

There is the skinny on losing pregnancy weight once the newborn has been delivered. Most of the mothers will lose the majority of their pregnancy weight in the first three months after delivering a baby. In general, the mother loses 10-13 lbs while the birthing from the weighs of the infant and placenta. An additional 7-11 lbs will be lost later on the first postpartum week. The remaining extra weight will be cast off with appropriate dietary habits and some regular exercises’ program. The mother can be back to her normal weight and figure that fits into her pre-pregnancy dresses in just a short few months as long as she takes care exercising and eating healthily in the weeks that follow pregnancy.
